We are all at different points on a life journey of exploration and discovery, learning who we are, what we believe and value, and where and to whom we belong. Sometimes, attempts to find answers that could lead to a more fulfilling life can be disrupted by past or present traumas, unresolved feelings, relational challenges, stressful life events, unmet physical and emotional needs, and maladaptive behaviors. We are usually unaware of how impactful these experiences can be, until, over time, we see how it affects our lives and the lives of those around us. Counseling, and Christian Counseling in particular, can help us process our experiences and help us find acceptance, meaning, and purpose toward a healthier, more joyful, and more peaceful path forward.
I believe that my role as a counselor is building a trusting relationship with clients in a safe space while challenging perceptions, motivations, and incongruencies, providing the foundation for successful growth in the therapeutic relationship.
Integrating a faith-based approach with modern psychotherapies provides an effective foundation for this important and challenging work.
Compassionate listening, wisdom leading to deeper understanding of underlying issues, and hope to encourage and inspire progress is critical to the therapeutic healing process, keeps the focus on wholeness, and views each person as a unique being created with God-given gifts and talents.
I integrate faith into the therapy process to promote improved mental health from a biblically-informed perspective. I incorporate spiritual resources, Bible teachings, and faith traditions into therapy while employing established clinical techniques. I view my clients’ difficulties through the lens of a Christian worldview rather than from a strictly naturalistic perspective.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety, substance use and abuse, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. Research suggests that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life.
I have training in several therapeutic models and practice an integrated approach to counseling. While CBT is my primary therapeutic focus, I will utilize other modalities as appropriate and necessary to facilitate the therapeutic process.
